ABAUT  US

In 1998, the Faculty of Economics, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University founded an independent international peer-reviewed and refereed practical scientific journal "Social Economy", the first issue of which was published in January 1999 and it was published permanently every two months. Prominent scientists from Georgia and foreign countries were invited to the editorial board. The journal was distinguished by its original columns, articles and reviews dedicated to the acute and current economic problems of the country were published, and in a few years the journal gained popularity not only in Georgia - it also became internationally referred and reviewed. (The journal was sent to many other countries). In 2005, the editor-in-chief of the journal, Prof. Revaz Gogokhia received a letter of thanks from the head of the Library of Congress for his active cooperation with them.
In 2008, based on the journal "Social Economy", the international peer-reviewed and refereed journal "Economy and Business" was established at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The editorial board was renewed. It was filled with new Georgian and foreign professional scientific economists, rubrics were improved and perfected, format and style were changed and refined. The journal switched to university funding.
The main mission of the journal is to provide to wide society and economic management state structures the accumulated knowledge and advanced practical experience in the fields of Economic and Business, what will help to promote the economic and social development of the country.
One of the priorities of the journal is to bring out to a wide range of scientific audiences the results of the works, done by doctoral students in the process of working on dissertation.
Also the important task is to offer the professors and teachers scientific products in the process of creation and renewal of educational programs, social innovations and business; in the implementing of professional economists standards in society.
To accomplish the abovementioned tasks, in the journal are published articles as local, so foreign authors in Georgian and English languages in the History of Theoretical Economics and Economic Doctrines, Economic Policy, Macro and Micro Economics, Business and Management, about actual theoretical and practical issues, reviews on newly published monographs and textbooks.
In January 2019, the journal "Economy and Business" was included in the ERIHPLUS database, in the month of May 2019 in the world information base EBSCO, and at the end of the same year in Google Scholar. Since October 2020, it has taken a place in the base of INDEX COPERNICUS INTERNATIONAL.
In 2022, "Economics and Business" journal became a member organization of crossref.org. (Digital Object Identifier assignment index for the journal - DOI) and the journal was assigned the code - DOI 10. 56079.
In the new situation, the journal made significant progress and met certain new requirements of an international scale. The standard of the scientific article to be published in the journal was changed, which was developed and reconciled with the requirements of the Georgian and Chicago style. The main attention of the journal staff and editorial board is focused on its internationalization. It is intended to increase the specific share of foreign language articles in the journal and intensively involve more foreign authors. From 2022 world-renowned scientific economists were added to the members of the foreign editorial board: Gregory N. Mankiw - Harvard University professor (USA), Elizabeth Chacko – the George Washington University professor (USA), Giuseppe De Luca - Milan University professor (Italy) and others.
The journal "Economics and Business" is constantly evolving. It is important that the online version be finalized and edited in accordance with the format and style of international journals.

New Book by Prof. Vladimer Papava

Another book - "Becoming European:  Challenges for Georgia in the Twenty-First Century" by Professor Vladimer Papava has been published in USA. This book is a collection of electronic publications over the past 15 years. These articles are devoted to the political and economic problems of Post-Communist Georgia in the XXI century. For Georgia, even before the collapse of the USSR, and especially in the last years of its existence, the priority was an Euro-Atlantic orientation. Georgia's European path of development has not been an easy one. The formation of an European state in Post-Communist Georgia is associated with many difficult tasks, which solution is of paramount importance for the future of this country. On June 27, 2014, the EU-Georgia Association Agreement was signed in Brussels. The agreement opened up new opportunities for Georgia to integrate into the EU. At the same time, Georgia still needs to do a lot of work for a real rapprochement with the EU and this will require many years of hard work.

Leading world professors and politologs have expressed their high appreciation for the book. Between them are:
Jeffrey D. Sachs, University Professor, Columbia University, USA;

S. Frederick Starr, Chairman, Central Asia-Caucasus Institute, Washington, D.C., USA and Stockholm, Sweden;

Anders Åslund, Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council, and Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University, USA;

Keith W. Crane, Senior Fellow, Science and Technology Policy Institute, Washington, DC, USA;

Paul Goble, Former Special Advisor on Soviet Nationalities at the US Department of State, and Adjunct Professor, Institute of World Politics, USA;

—Paul Hare, Professor Emeritus, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK;

Stephen F. Jones, Professor, Russian and Eurasian Studies/International Relations, Mount Holyoke College, USA;

Neil Macfarlane, Professor of Oxford University, Oxford, UK;

Thomas W. Simons, Jr., former U.S. Ambassador to Poland and Pakistan, Visiting Scholar, Davis Center for Russian  and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University, USA;

Ben Slay, Senior Economist, UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS.
