Dmitry Sorokin, a foreign member of the journal "Economics and Business" editorial board, prominent Russian economist, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has passed away.

D. Sorokin was born on January 1, 1946 in Moscow. Graduated from the Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics, worked as Head of the Department at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1988-2006), First Deputy Director (2006-2014), and from 2015 until his death he was a Head of “Macroeconomic Regulation“ Department, Vice-Rector for Science and Scientific Supervisor of the University of Finance of the Russian Federation. Most recently he led the Department of Economic Theory. Since 2014 D. Sorokin was the Chief-Editor of the journal “Financial University Bulletin”.

Professor Dmitry Sorokin made a significant contribution to the development of Russia's social-economic development strategy.

D. Sorokin was well-known specialist in political-economic research, his field of scientific interests were: alternative approaches to post-communist transformation, property and labor relations, public institutions and issues of their reform.

To Professor D. Sorokin's pen belongs numerous scientific papers in the form of monographs and articles. He was a member of the editorial boards of the scientific journals: “Вопросы экономики“, „Экономическая наука современной России“, „Журнал экономической теории“, „Труды Вольного Экономического Общества“.

Professor D. Sorokin loved Georgia very much, had warm and friendly relations with his Georgian colleagues. He regularly participated in scientific conferences and symposiums in Tbilisi, often traveling to different parts of Georgia.

Prof. D. Sorokin left life full of creative energy, so that he could not manage to implement many interesting ideas and projects.

We mourn for passing away of Mr. Sorokin. We offer our condolences to his wife from Tbilisi, Ms. Nazi and son Dima.

Prof. Dimitri Sorokin will always remain in our hearts and memory as an outstanding scientist-economist, organizer of scientific research and discussions, talented orator and brilliant speaker, a great friend and fan of Georgia.
